Disney+ now offers access to live sports events through a new ESPN tile available in the Disney+ app and on the website in the U.S. The new ESPN hub follows the addition of a Hulu hub earlier this year, and works in largely the same way.
For example, Disney+ subscribers will need to be subscribed to ESPN+ through the Disney Trio Bundle to access the additional sports content. For those already subscribed to the bundle, the change now means it is possible to watch content from all three streaming services through the one app.
“This launch really puts a cherry on top of a fantastic year of innovation at Disney+,” Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+, said. “Earlier in the year, we made Hulu available in the Disney+ app, and now we’re doing the same for ESPN+. This gives our bundle subscribers one place to consume everything they love from all our brands.”
Bundle subscribers can expect access to 5,000 live events in the first 90 days, including NFL, NBA, NHL, College Basketball, and Australian Open. This is also in addition to new originals from 30 for 30 and ESPN Original Series.
New ESPN Hub Visible To All Disney+ Subscribers
As the new ESPN hub is going live for everyone, all Disney+ subscribers can expect to begin seeing the new section from today, and regardless of whether they are a bundle subscriber or not.
The addition of the hub for all subscribers isn’t just a way to encourage new bundle signups, as Disney says standalone subscribers will also get access to “a curated selection of live sports events” at no additional cost, including select live sports events, studio shows, and ESPN Films from ESPN+.
This select content will begin to become available later this month with The Simpsons Funday Football animated Monday Night Football game, and a Christmas Day lineup of NBA games.
