What is Disney+?

Disney+ is the new streaming service from The Walt Disney Co.

While some streaming services use a “+” label to denote a service that’s sold on top of another service, that’s not the case with Disney+.

Instead, this is the main Disney streaming service that looks to bring together the entire world of Disney. For reference, that means more than just the Disney classics we’re all familiar with.

Disney now owns a whole bunch of popular entities and brands, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight, to name a few.

Overall, there’s no shortage of content here and all for a very competitive price.

How much is Disney+?

Disney+ costs $6.99 in the U.S. That’s an incredibly low price for the amount of content on offer and significantly less than what competing services are currently charging for access.

The $6.99 price is for the standalone subscription.

You can also sign up to the standalone subscription on an annual basis and save a few dollars in the process. At present, Disney+ is available priced at $69 for the year.

This brings the cost down to $5.75 per month. Another way of looking at it is that you are getting two months for free when you pay for ten.

Alternatively, Disney now also offers Disney+ as part of a bundle. Streamers can get Disney+, ESPN+ and the ad-supported version of Hulu for $12.99 per month.

If subscribed to separately, ESPN+ costs $4.99 per month while Hulu costs $5.99 per month.

Considering each of these services charge roughly $5 for a dedicated subscription, the bundle is close to a buy two, get one free deal.

How do I get Disney+?

Singing up to Disney+ is super easy.

As this is a direct-to-consumer service, there’s no need to go through your TV provider or any other third-party company.

Instead, you can go straight to the Disney+ website and sign up from there. Alternatively, you can download the mobile app and sign up through the app.

iOS mobile users can download the app from the App Store.

Android mobile users can download the app from the Google Play Store.

What devices and platforms does Disney+ support?

Although Disney+ is a new service, it is one that arrived with plenty of device and platform support. No matter what devices you are using, there’s a good chance you will be able to access Disney+.

One of the easiest ways to access the service is via a web browser.

Streaming via a desktop web browser

You can stream Disney+ via a number of different web browsers including Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

Streaming via a mobile web browser

At the moment, Disney+ does not support streaming via a mobile web browser. Instead, mobile users are required to download the Disney+ smartphone app to stream.

Note: Disney+ also does not currently permit streaming via a browser on either smart TVs or game consoles.

How many Disney+ streams at the same time?

Disney is proving pretty generous with the same-time streams. Disney+ lets subscribers stream on four different devices at the same time.

In addition to four simultaneous streams, Disney+ also allows for seven different profiles.

Can I download Disney+

Yes, you can download Disney+ shows and movies to watch offline.

Just like the number of streams and the profiles, this is another area where Disney is showing its generosity. Disney+ offers unlimited downloading, letting subscribers download as much content as they want.

In addition, Disney+ content can also be downloaded on up to ten different devices at the same time.

Both the unlimited and number of simultaneous devices makes Disney+ one of the most generous services around, when it comes to downloading.

How does Disney+ compare to the competition?

There’s no debating that Disney is going with a price-sensitive approach.

The last year has seen a number of price rises in the industry for both streaming and live TV services.

In fact, the only service that has dropped their prices recently is Hulu. The standard subscription dropped from $7.99 to $5.99 per month in January, 2019.

Interestingly, Hulu is a service that’s now controlled by Disney. So that should give you some indication that Disney is aware of how much price matters.

At $6.99 per month, Disney+ is one of the cheapest streaming services around. Here’s how it compares to some of the other popular streaming services right now.

Is there a Disney+ free trial?

Yes, there is a Disney+ free trial.

However, compared to competing streaming services it is pretty short. At present, Disney+ only offers seven days of free access before you need to start paying.

Compared to the entire month offered by similar services, this is a very limited free trial.

In addition, you do have to sign up and provide payment details in advance to gain access to the free trial.
