Disney+ ended the second calendar quarter (Q3 Fiscal 2024) with a total of 153.8 million subscribers. The subscriber update confirms a slight increase on the previous quarter.
During the first three months of this year, Disney+ added almost eight million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, marking a very good quarter for the streaming service. While another increase in this most recent quarter, the number is much lower.
In the U.S. and Canada specifically, Disney+ closed the quarter with 54.8 million subscribers. This represents an increase of around 800,000 on the 54 million reported for the first calendar quarter of the year. Considering Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. and Canada totaled 46 million in calendar Q2 2023, Disney+ saw a year-over-year increase of around 8.8 million subscribers.
In spite of the increase in subscribers, domestic Disney+ average monthly revenue per paid subscriber decreased from $8 to $7.74 during the most recent quarter.
Internationally, and excluding Disney+ Hotstar, Disney+ ended the quarter with 63.5 million subscribers, a slight decline on the 63.6 million reported for the previous quarter. With Disney+ Hotstar also encountering a decline (down to 35.5 million from 36 million), Disney+ ended the quarter with a total of 153.8 million, slightly up from the 153.6 million reported for calendar Q1 2024.
International Disney+ (excluding Disney+ Hotstar) average monthly revenue per paid subscriber increased from $6.66 to $6.78 between April and June 2024.
Earlier this week, Disney confirmed a new round of price increases that are due to take effect later this year. Beginning October 17, the cost of Disney+ Basic will increase from $7.99 to $9.99 a month and the cost of Disney+ Premium will increase from $13.99 to $15.99 a month (or $159.99 a year).
At the same time, the cost of the Disney Duo Basic bundle, which includes Disney+ Basic and Hulu (With Ads), will increase from $9.99 to $10.99 a month.
