Philo No Longer Offers A Free Trial To New Core Subscribers

If you’re planning to give Philo’s Core live TV package a try, you’ll now have to pay for the first month when signing up. The Core package no longer comes with a seven-day free trial.

One of the clear trends of the last few years has been the removal of the free trial. Although more prevalent with SVOD services, live TV services have toyed with the option as well.

For example, Hulu Live TV previously removed its free trial only for it to return in 2024 as a shorter three-day free trial. Likewise, whether a Sling TV free trial is available typically depends on the device you are signing up on.

Philo is now the latest to do away with the free trial, as the live TV service no longer offers new subscribers the ability to watch for free for seven days when signing up.

The reason the trial has been removed is the availability of Philo Free, Philo’s free ad-supported service that’s packed with more than 100 FAST channels.

According to Philo, the free experience offers interested consumers enough of a sampling of the service and the user experience to make it easy enough to decide whether they want to upgrade to the paid Core package.

With an alternate gateway to the Philo experience available, the option to test out everything Philo has to offer has been removed.

This isn’t the only notable change for Philo in recent months. At the end of September the company added $5 to the monthly cost of the Core package, increasing the minimum price to $33 a month.

At the same time as increasing the price, Philo began bundling Discovery+ and HBO Max with the Core package, adding more value to a plan that already included access to 100+ FAST channels, 70+ premium channels, and AMC+.
