As Streaming Better reported earlier this month, T-Mobile customers signed up to Philo, and in receipt of a $10 monthly discount, are in the process of losing that discount. Although it previously looked as though they would lose the discount completely, that no longer appears to be the case.
While the discount is still being removed from Philo accounts, it appears to now be in the process of being added to T-Mobile accounts. In other words, affected Philo subscribers will still receive the $10 discount each month, it is just the discount will now be applied to their T-Mobile account and not directly to their Philo subscription.
T-Mobile actually made a similar change a couple of years ago with its YouTube TV discount. While initially applied to a YouTube TV subscription, T-Mobile changed this so that customers would receive the discount on their T-Mobile monthly bill instead of their YouTube TV account.
Although this should mean that T-Mobile customers who are also Philo subscribers won’t be any worse off each month, the change somewhat guarantees that they only continue to receive the discount while they remain T-Mobile customers.
It also remains unclear whether T-Mobile customers will continue to receive the discount for as long as they remain a customer.
Based on an image shared by a Reddit user this week, it is possible that the discount switch from Philo to T-Mobile might only last for the next 24 months. If that is the case, then the ‘lifetime’ discount originally promised has around two more years left.
Still, that’s better than Philo subscribers losing the discount completely, which was the understanding up until now.
