Thanks to a new partnership between LG and Microsoft, Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to LG smart TVs. Once available, LG TV owners will be able to choose from hundreds of games to stream and play in the Xbox app on their TV.
While neither LG nor Microsoft have confirmed when exactly the new support will go live, both companies have confirmed the feature will become available later in the year.
In the announcement, both companies also emphasized gaming support will be available on “new” and “latest” LG smart TVs. Whether this means support won’t extend to the rest of LG’s TV portfolio remains to be seen right now.
According to Microsoft and LG, more details on device support, as well as what users can expect from the LG TV Xbox gaming experience in general, will become available “in the coming months.”
For those that do own a compatible smart TV, the new partnership will offer a way for gamers to play many of their favorite Xbox titles without the need for any additional hardware, other than a controller.
However, and similar to last year’s launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming on select Amazon Fire TV devices, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription will be required to play games from the Game Pass catalog.
Late last year, Microsoft announced that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members were also gaining the option to stream their own games through Xbox Cloud Gaming. This additional membership benefit is also set to become available on LG smart TVs when the wider Xbox gaming support goes live later this year.
In the meantime, LG TV users can now make use of the company’s new LG Radio+ service. Launched last month, LG Radio+ is an ad-supported audio streaming service, providing users with access to a variety of free audio content, including live stations and podcasts.
