YouTube TV is not free with Amazon Prime, but it can be downloaded and installed on a Fire TV device. YouTube TV is a live TV streaming subscription service and it is not included with any other subscription for free. In some cases, subscribers to one service can bundle their subscription with a YouTube TV plan, but that does not include Amazon Prime.
A standard YouTube TV subscription currently costs $64.99 per month. For those that want an even richer experience, there is the 4K Plus add-on for an additional $20 per month. While the add-on doesn’t increase the number of channels, it does increase the number of streams as well as adding the option to download videos for offline viewing, and 4K playback.
Amazon Prime members cannot access YouTube TV for free. Regardless of their Amazon Prime subscription, they will still need a separate subscription to watch YouTube TV. There is currently no option to bundle the two subscriptions together and that looks unlikely to change anytime soon. Even if there was an Amazon Prime and YouTube TV bundle available, consumers would still need to pay for YouTube TV.
Live TV options for Prime Members
Although YouTube TV is not available with a Prime membership, Amazon customers can still watch YouTube TV on their Fire TV devices. Similar to other live TV streaming services, a YouTube TV app is available to download on many devices, including Fire Stick and Fire TV Edition TV sets. Once downloaded, the user will need to create a YouTube TV account and set up payment for the monthly subscription, before gaining access to all of the live TV channels and on demand content that’s available.
YouTube TV is not the only option either, as many of the most popular live TV streaming services are available to download on a Fire TV player or smart TV. With fuboTV, Sling TV and Philo also available, Prime members looking to take advantage of live TV on their preferred devices do have options.
In addition, Amazon also offers a Prime Video Channels service that allows Prime and Prime Video members to access some live TV without a cable or live TV streaming subscription. To be clear, Prime Video Channels won’t replace a live TV subscription, but if specific channels that a Prime member is interested in are available through Prime Video Channels, then they will be able to subscribe directly through Amazon. In some cases, even watch live programming at the same time that it’s broadcast on TV.
Alternate YouTube TV bundle options
Although there is currently no option to bundle YouTube TV with an Amazon Prime membership, there are some instances where a consumer can bundle YouTube TV with another service. One example is T-Mobile. Cellular customers signed up to T-Mobile do have the option of combining their mobile and YouTube TV bills together.
While T-Mobile previously offered its own TVision live TV service, that has since closed. Since then, the service has offered existing customers the option to either add YouTube TV or Philo to their account as an add-on.
Another Example is Verizon Fios. Similar to T-Mobile, Verizon customers have the option to add YouTube TV as a live TV option with their internet or phone package. YouTube TV can be bundled with either a Verizon Wireless or a Verizon Home Internet plan. Again, one of the benefits of bundling YouTube TV with a Verizon plan is the ability to combine the bills for the two services as well, making the two subscriptions easier to manage.
It is worth noting that whether going through T-Mobile, Verizon Fios, or any other route, bundling YouTube TV with another service doesn’t make the live TV access free. In some cases, combining the two services may result in a temporary discount on the monthly bill, but subscribers will still be expected to pay for YouTube TV, regardless of their existing subscription.
YouTube TV Amazon Prime summary
YouTube TV is not available to bundle with an Amazon Prime membership, and this is regardless of whether the consumer is willing to pay more each month. While YouTube TV can be downloaded and streamed through a number of Amazon’s Fire TV devices, it still will require a paid subscription directly from YouTube TV, or through a different third-party provider.
Speaking of which, a YouTube TV subscription can be set up through some mobile carriers and internet providers, including T-Mobile and Verizon. While subscribing through these separate services won’t necessarily result in a cheaper YouTube TV subscription, it does allow consumers to combine billing for both subscriptions.
