YouTube TV’s Multiview is now available on iPhone and iPad, offering sports fans a way to watch multiple live sports feeds at the same time on a single mobile device. Up until now, Multiview has only been available on living room devices, such as smart TVs and streaming players.
There have been multiple user reports surfacing on social media over the past week confirming that Multiview is rolling out to mobile devices. While correct, YouTube TV’s help post confirms that the feature is only currently rolling out to iPhone and iPad devices.
At present, there’s no word yet on when support will roll out to Android mobile devices. Likewise, Multiview continues to remain unavailable when using the web version of YouTube TV.
When using a supported iOS or iPadOS device, users will likely see the availability of Multiview in either the “Top Picks for You” or “Watch in multiview” rows. They can then choose from one of the pre-set Multiview configurations to start watching. Alternatively, launching a supported single sports feed should also now offer the option to “Watch in multiview” on iPhone and iPad.
For reference, YouTube has clarified that AirPlay support is not available for Multiview. While iPhone and iPad users can watch multiple feeds on their mobile devices, they won’t be able to stream those feeds to AirPlay-enabled TVs and devices connected to the same network.
Earlier this year, YouTube expanded the ability to customize the feeds available through Multiview. Even though this ‘Multiview builder’ feature doesn’t offer the ability to choose any four feeds, it does provide an easier way for YouTube TV subscribers to construct a specific Multiview configuration.
