YouTube TV is now testing an expanded version of Multiview that allows subscribers to include a selection of national channels, including ESPN, Bravo and USA.
As this is a test, the channels included in the expanded version may change over time. Likewise, as availability of the expanded version is currently rolling out in stages, not all subscribers will have access to the additional channels at the same time.
According to the announcement post on Reddit (spotted by 9to5 Google), the rolling out of the experiment is in response to user demand and feedback. “We heard your feedback loud and clear,” YouTube TV said in the announcement.
As a reminder, here’s how to access Multiview:
- From the Home tab, click into a multiview from the “Watch in multiview” row or “Top picks for you” row for personalized multiview recommendations.
- On a smart TV or streaming device, start watching an eligible channel and tap down on your controller to find a multiview.
- On a mobile device or tablet, start watching an eligible channel and tap “Multiview” on the player to find a multiview.
Providing the expanded version exits the testing phase and becomes permanently available, YouTube TV subscribers will find they have the option to better customize the Multiview experience, and especially in terms of non-sports content and programming.
The announcement also made clear that YouTube TV plans to launch a new ‘Always-On‘ version of Multiview in the future. Unlike the customized version, the Always-On version will include local channels like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC.
While local channels are currently unavailable through the expanded version that’s now in testing, YouTube TV did say that it also plans to add support for local channels in the near future.
