Apple TV Plus devices

Apple TV+ is available to watch on a variety of devices, including smart TVs, streaming players, mobile devices, game consoles and web browsers. While the Apple TV app was previously limited in terms of non-Apple device support, the situation has changed a lot since launch. Nowadays, Apple TV+ shows and movies can be watched on a wide selection of platforms and devices.

Apple launched its video streaming service in late 2019. A standard Apple TV+ subscription currently costs $4.99 per month which makes it an affordable option compared to many other subscription services. Similar to the initial device support, Apple TV+ was also somewhat limited in terms of the amount of movies and shows that were available to stream. Since then, however, Apple has expanded both the selection of content and the device support list.

As to be expected, Apple TV+ plays very nicely with all of Apple’s own devices, including iPhone, iPad and MacBook. However, consumers might be surprised at just how readily accessible the subscription service now is, and how many devices in the home are likely to already be compatible with Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ supported platforms and devices:

  • Apple TV
  • iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
  • Mac and MacBook
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Android TV
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • LG smart TVs
  • Google TV
  • Microsoft Xbox
  • Sony PlayStation
  • Roku OS
  • Samsung TVs

  • Chromecast with Google TV
  • Fire TV Stick (2016 and 2017)

Other ways to watch Apple TV+

If consumers find that their existing smart TVs or streaming players are not currently compatible with Apple TV+, there are some other options available, including smartphones, tablets and even game consoles.

When it comes to laptops and other Android devices, Apple has yet to make an Apple TV+ app available. However, shows and movies can still be streamed by visiting https://tv.apple.com on Windows PCs as well as Android and Chrome OS devices through a browser and signing in.

Compatible web browsers:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari

Apple TV+ supported devices summary

Apple tends to be somewhat protective of its apps and services and this was previously the case for Apple TV+. However, over time Apple has gradually extended support and its video streaming service is now available on a wide selection of devices. Naturally, consumers can expect the company’s own iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Apple TV to be highly compatible with Apple TV+.

For non-Apple device owners, the subscription service can also be accessed on a variety of third-party smart TVs, streaming players, game consoles and web browsers. If a device isn’t supported, it may be worth checking if it AirPlay 2-enabled, as this will allow casting of Apple TV+ from a different device.
