Roku as a company has been around much longer than many realize and those years have culminated in a lot of experience that’s now directly fed into the current experience.
While best-known for its line of streaming players, the company has since expanded into the content game. For example, The Roku Channel launched back in 2017 as a way to offer its existing customers the option to access free episodes and movies on the company’s devices. Since then, the streaming service has gained many new features, including premium subscriptions. In addition to rolling out on other devices and platforms, further extending the brand’s reach to customers it would not have access to otherwise. This has resulted in the company becoming a major player at the hardware level, the operating system level, and even at the content level.
In terms of hardware, the company’s operating system is not only included on Roku players, but also on a selection of TVs which come with the software experience built-in. Even more recently, Roku OS has been added to soundbars for those who want to upgrade their audio at the same time as upgrading their streaming setup.
The Apple TV app is available to download on a variety of Roku players and smart TVs, but it is best to check specific device support first.
If you’re ever asked for payment to activate a Roku device or for technical support, don’t pay.
