DirecTV plans to test its own version of multiview beginning with coverage of the 2024 election. According to DirecTV, the new multiview experience will become available across DirecTV platforms on November 4th and will remain available until the presidential election results are confirmed.
The new Multiview support will be offered as part of an Election HQ hub and offer subscribers the option to watch multiple news feeds at the same time.
Specifically, subscribers will be able to access live feeds of FOX News, CNN, MSNBC and Newsmax. The new Election HQ hub will also feature various statistics for additional context, including Senate and House breakdowns by party, and state-by-state Presidential projections powered by the Associated Press.
For those currently using a Gemini or Gemini Air device to access DirecTV, the multiview functionality is set to become available through a new preloaded app that will automatically appear in the Featured Apps carousel. DirecTV satellite customers with a Genie device will be able to access Election HQ on channels 71 and 200 in the live guide.
The Multiview experience offered on election day will also double as a beta test for the feature in general. Providing the testing goes according to plan, it probably can be expected that Multiview will eventually become more widely available to DirecTV subscribers, and feature support for other genres and programming, including live sports.
