fuboTV ended the fourth quarter (and 2022 as a whole) with more than 1.4 million subscribers in North America. This subscriber number not only confirms an increase on the previous quarter, but the previous year as well.
fuboTV had 1.445 million subscribers in North America as of December 31, 2022, according to the company’s fourth quarter and 2022 year-end financial results. As per the report, this represented a year-over-year increase of around 29%. fuboTV ended the fourth quarter of 2021 with 1.13 million global subscribers.
This also resulted in an increase when directly compared to the previous quarter. After closing out the third quarter of 2022 with 1.2 million subscribers, fuboTV increased its North American subscriber base by more than 200,000 in the last few months of the year.
Unlike some of the other live TV streaming services, fuboTV also operates in other countries. As part of its ‘Rest of World’ results, fubo confirmed the live TV service ended 2022 with 420,000 total paid subscribers. Compared to the previous year, this equated to an increase of around 117%.
When compared to the rest of the live TV streaming market, fuboTV remains in fourth position overall, based on the number of subscribers. Sling recently confirmed it closed out last year with a little over 2.3 million, while Hulu confirmed that its year ended with around 4.5 million. YouTube has yet to release updated subscriber numbers, although it is still understood to be the service with the most overall.
Looking forward, the next quarter will prove to be an interesting one for fuboTV. Back in January, fuboTV increased the price of its cheapest base plan by $5 per month. In addition, the cost of the company’s Regional Sports Fee also increased. This fee is applied to any and all subscribers that get access to an RSN and could increase the monthly cost of a base plan by as much as $14 per month.
With potentially high increases on the monthly cost, it is possible that fuboTV may see a subscriber decline in the first quarter of the year. A point that’s not lost on fubo with the company now projecting that it will end Q1 2023 with between 1,140,000 and 1,160,000 North American subscribers.
