Roku is starting 2025 with confirmation the operating system surpassed 90 million streaming households (previously referred to as ‘active accounts’) in the first week of the year. Considering the company ended the year before with 80 million, Roku managed to add around ten million over the past twelve months.
In terms of the actual calendar year, Roku closed out 2024 with a total of 89.8 million streaming households, just shy of that 90 million marker.
Reaching the milestone just days later, Roku labeled the event as “significant“, claiming its reach now means “Roku is in nearly half of all U.S. broadband households.”
“Thanks to our laser focus on simplifying and enhancing the streamer’s journey, Roku is the preferred choice for millions of viewers. I’m grateful to our customers, partners, advertisers, and employees for helping us reach this notable milestone,” said Anthony Wood, Founder and CEO, Roku.
The user base is not the only part of the Roku experience that expanded last year. During 2024, The Roku Channel received a number of new additions including a new Roku Sports Channel, the first-ever NBA-branded FAST channel, and 10 Local Now FAST channels. This is in addition to the ability to subscribe to AMC+ (with Ads), BET+, and Max directly through The Roku Channel app.
Roku also introduced a number of new TV features in 2024 including support for Fubo’s Multiview, Backdrops, and Roku Smart Picture.
