Late yesterday, a dispute between DirecTV and Disney progressed to the blackout stage, resulting in DirecTV customers and DirecTV Stream subscribers losing access to various Disney-owned channels, including ABC and ESPN.
With college football now underway, and NFL season around the corner, Sling wants affected DirecTV customers to know that they can switch over to Sling TV and continuing watching football. In the same blog post, Sling also highlighted its ‘Season Pass‘ as the best and cheapest option for football fans making the switch for the full season.
Sling’s Season Pass currently unlocks access to the Sling Orange & Blue plan, plus Sports Extra, for as little as $199 for four months when prepaying. With Sling Orange & Blue typically priced at $55 a month and Sports Extra adding an additional $15 each month, subscribers normally pay $70 a month for the base plan and add-on.
Over four months, this results in total of $280, making the Season Pass a cheaper option overall. After signing up to the combined base package and Sports Extra, subscribers will have access to games on ESPN, including SEC Network and ACC Network.
The bundled package will also unlock access to games shown on ABC. Even though the live ABC channel is only available in select locations via Sling TV, games on ABC will be simulcast on ESPN3.
For reference, those in areas where ABC is available through Sling TV pay an additional $5 a month fee for access to the channel. This additional fee takes the cost of Sling’s Season Pass up to a minimum of $219 for four months.
For those unsure of whether Sling TV is the right option for them, it is also possible just to sign up for a single month to see. If totally new to Sling TV, you can usually get the first month from $20, half the usual cost.
