The cost of a Sling TV subscription will increase by $5.99 a month beginning next month. The price increase will affect all plans and subscribers, including those signed up to the combined Sling Orange & Blue plan.
Interestingly, and in spite of being a more expensive package, the combined plan is increasing by the exact same amount. Regardless of whether signed up to Sling Orange, Sling Blue or Sling Orange & Blue, all subscribers will pay $5.99 more each month.
The price increase is due to take effect on Dec. 20th, 2024. This will be the date for all new subscribers as well as those whose plan renews on that day. Those with a later billing date can expect their plan to increase on their next bill after Dec. 20.
In explaining the price increase, Sling points to the rising costs of programming in general.
“These increases are industry wide — other leading streaming providers have had increases throughout 2024. Despite this, Sling continues to be the most affordable option with offerings more than twenty dollars less per month versus other providers,” Sling said.
With its plans starting at $46 a month after the price increase, Sling isn’t wrong in stating its packages will continue to be cheaper than many other live TV services. Sling is also not wrong in the fact that price increases continue to plague the industry as a whole.
This year alone we have seen Fubo, DirecTV, Hulu Live TV and Philo all increase in price, and that’s just on the live TV side. Price increases in 2024 have also affected Crunchyroll, Disney+, ESPN+, History Vault, Max, MGM+, Paramount+, Peacock, and Starz.
