Disney+ ended the most recent quarter with 124.6 million subscribers. The calendar fourth quarter (Disney Q1 FY25) results confirm a loss of 700,00 subscribers during the final three months of the year (as of Dec. 28, 2024).
For reference, Disney made a change to its reporting for the most recent quarter, as the company no longers include Disney+ Hotstar subscribers in its Disney+ subscriber total. The rest of the totals discussed here are based on adjusted subscriber numbers provided by Disney.
Disney+ managed to add 4.4 million subscribers to its subscriber base during the third calendar quarter. However, after taking into account the adjusted totals, and the loss during the most recent quarter, the number of additions in the second half of the year were fewer than in the third calendar quarter.
In the U.S. and Canada, Disney+ ended the most recent quarter with a total of 56.8 million subscribers. With 56 million reported for the end of September, Disney+ managed to add around 800,000 during the final three months.
As a reminder, Disney+ increased in price in October. The change in pricing in the U.S. increased the cost of the Disney+ Basic tier to $9.99 a month, Disney+ Premium to $15.99 a month, and the Disney+ Premium annual plan to $159.99 a year.
With Disney+ seemingly having gained subscribers in the U.S. and Canada during the final three months, it would appear that the price increases in the U.S. didn’t massively affect its subscriber base.
In terms of international markets, Disney ended the fourth calendar quarter with 67.8 million subscribers, resulting in a decrease of 1.5 million on the 69.3 million reported for the quarter before. The loss in international subscribers appears to be the leading contributor to the overall loss in subscribers during the most quarter.
