The 2022 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR 2022) takes place between December 1st and 10th, and can be watched without a traditional cable or satellite package. For those looking to watch the action live, they can either sign up to one of a number of live TV streaming services, or pay for a dedicated NFR Streaming Pass.
Taking place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) championship event is often referred to as the Super Bowl of rodeo. This year’s event is expected to be no different, although the watching from home experience is likely to be even better than ever. This is thanks to the use of 4K cameras, 360 degree cameras, sky cams, and ghost cams helping to ensure that every bit of the action is seen.
NFR 2022 is being shown on two different channels in the United States, so consumers do actually have more of a choice than with some other live events. The two channels are The Cowboy Channel and RFD-TV, with both expected to be showing more than 10 hours of daily NFR programming each day. While fuboTV, Hulu Live TV, and YouTube TV don’t provide access to either of these channels, Sling TV, DirecTV Stream, and Vidgo do, albeit at varying prices.
Cheapest way to watch NFR 2022
The cheapest way to watch NFR 2022 is through Sling TV. Sling offers two main plans to choose from and neither of them include The Cowboy Channel or RFD-TV. However, both are available with Sling’s Heartland Extra add-on. Heartland Extra costs $6 per month on top of the cost of a base subscription. With both the Sling Orange and Sling Blue base plans priced at $40 per month each, the total cost of either plan with The Cowboy Channel and RFD-TV comes to a total of $46 per month.
It is worth noting that Sling happens to be running a half-off promotion at the moment which reduces the cost of either base plan by 50%. Considering NFR 2022 only runs from Dec. 1 to Dec. 10, it is possible for new customers to sign up and only pay $26 (for Blue or Orange + Heartland Extra) to watch NFR 2022. Keep in mind, the subscription will automatically renew in the second month at the usual $46 rate (base plan + add-on).
It is also possible to watch NFR 2022 with a DirecTV Stream subscription. DirecTV Stream offers four different plans for subscribers to choose from and all of them include access to RFD-TV. The cheapest plan is currently Entertainment, but at $69.99 per month, it is considerably more expensive than Sling TV. At the same time, DirecTV Stream does offer a 5-day free trial while Sling TV doesn’t.
Lastly, Vidgo is also an option for watching NFR 2022 without cable. Vidgo also offers more than one plan to choose from and provides access to both The Cowboy Channel and RFD-TV. However, both of these channels require a minimum of the Premium plan. Priced at $79.99 per month, this is the most expensive option.
Watch with an NFR Streaming Pass
Similar to many other networks, The Cowboy Channel does also offer its own dedicated subscription service, Cowboy Channel Plus. For those that don’t want to sign up for a live TV plan, or want to expand the amount of NFR 2022 content they have access to, a standalone Cowboy Channel Plus subscription might be worth checking out.
To watch directly through Cowboy Channel Plus, consumers will need to sign up for a 10-day NFR Streaming Pass, which costs $99.99. For that price, subscribers can watch every minute of NFR 2022 action, including every ride and run from all 10 performances. Subscribers are also able to stream on up to three supported devices at the same time, and can watch 2022 NFR videos on-demand for 30 days. This is an event-specific subscription, so subscribers won’t have to worry about the NFR Streaming Pass auto-renewing.
It is worth noting that the NFR Streaming Pass only unlocks access to NFR 2022 content. For those wanting to watch any of the other Cowboy Channel Plus content, a separate monthly subscription is required. The price of a standard Cowboy Channel Plus subscription is $9.99 per month.
How to watch NFR 2022 summary
Overall, Sling TV is the cheapest way to watch NFR 2022 without cable. Sling offers The Cowboy Channel and RFD-TV with its Heartland Extra add-on which can be bundled with either the Sling Orange or Sling Blue plan for a total of $46 per month. A current half-off promotion makes it possible to watch this year’s event for as little as $26 for the first month. Otherwise, DirecTV Stream and Vidgo are both options for watching NFR 2022.
It is also possible to sign up for a dedicated NFR Streaming Pass, priced at $99.99. This streaming pass is available through Cowboy Channel Plus, but only unlocks access to NFR content.
