YouTube’s multiview experience will be available to music fans when this year’s Coachella festival takes place, marking a major upgrade over past years. Coachella 2024 begins Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET, with the second weekend concluding Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Up until now, YouTube’s multiview experience has mainly been used to promote live sports, with some expansion to include news and other feeds. However, multiview support for Coachella marks a major expansion and one which will perfectly demonstrate how the technology can be used for just about any live event.

Once Coachella begins, music fans will be able to watch up to four live streams on their TVs at the same time. Similar to how it already works with sports events, users will be able to select which of the four feeds they want to listen to, with an easy ability to switch between audio feeds at any time.

Over the past few months, YouTube has been slowly expanding the option for sports fans to choose the combination of feeds that make up the multiview experience. Considering far fewer feeds will be streamed during Coachella (a total of six different stages), it is expected that viewers will be able to choose which four of the six stages they want to watch at the same time.

However, and unlike sports content, which gained multiview support for iPhone and iPad last month, the Coachella multiview experience will only be available when watching through the YouTube app on TVs, and not on mobile devices.

YouTube also confirmed that a variety of merch products will be available to buy through YouTube Shopping during live performances without the viewer having to leave the livestream. This shoppable feature will be available during performances by Tyler, The Creator, Doja Cat, plus Bleachers, Ice Spice, J. Balvin, Justice, LE SSERAFIM and Sabrina Carpenter, among others.
