Frndly TV offers Basic, Classic and Premium plans plans with the price varying between $6.99 and $10.99 per month, making all three plans great options for individuals and households looking for an affordable live TV streaming service. When it comes to the channels, however, Frndly TV is fairly limited compared to other services. As a result, it might not be the right option for all homes and families.

One of the consistent trends of late is the increasing cost of live TV streaming. While services like Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV originally launched at under $40 per month, they have both encountered multiple price increases over time. They are not alone either, with all of the main live TV services having increased their monthly prices on multiple occasions since launch.

This is where Frndly TV comes in. By design, the service is an affordable option and one that specifically comes with fewer channels to help keep costs as low as possible. The service has been expanding over time and now offers subscribers access to more than 30 channels including all three Hallmark channels, as well as INSP, UPtv, and the History Channel. For those that want a more premium experience than what the Basic plan provides, Frndly TV does offer two other plans, both of which are also considerably cheaper than most live TV streaming services.

frndly TV plans explained

The cheapest Frndly TV subscription is the Basic plan, priced at just $6.99 per month. In return, subscribers get access to a limited number of channels that they can watch live. The Basic Frndly TV subscription also comes with access to a variety of on-demand shows and movies from the included networks. The downsides with the Basic plan include video quality being limited to standard definition (SD) and the ability to only stream on one device at a time.

Frndly TV also offers an upgraded Classic plan for $8.99 per month. This subscription does not improve the selection of channels, but does add a cloud DVR for recording shows and movies. The additional $2 each month also boosts the playback quality to HD, while increasing the number of simultaneous streams to two. However, there are limitations to the cloud DVR, and this is where the Premium plan comes in.

At $10.99 per month, the Premium subscription is the most expensive Frndly TV plan overall, but it also comes with the best cloud DVR experience. Although the Classic plan allows subscribers to record as many shows and movies as they want, they can only be kept for three months. In contrast, the Premium plan allows recordings to be stored for up to nine months. The Premium plan also comes with the improved ability to stream on up to four devices at the same time.

Choosing the right frndly TV plan

Choosing the right Frndly TV subscription is fairly easy to do. Those wanting access to live TV channels, while saving as much money as possible each month, will find the Basic Frndly TV plan is for them. The one stream makes this plan best suited to individuals or households where the service is only likely to be watched on the one TV.

If the option to record shows and movies is important, then the Classic or Premium plans are going to be better options. This is also true for busier households where the service is likely to be streamed on more than one device at a time. Whether Classic or Premium is ultimately the better option comes down to how long recordings need to be stored for, and how many simultaneous streams are required. If a few weeks is enough to catch up on shows, and on no more than two devices will ever be streaming Frndly TV at the same time, then the Classic plan should work. Otherwise, consumers will want to consider the Premium plan.

Of course, it is not massively important which plan is chosen when signing up. As Frndly TV is a no-contract service, users are able to upgrade, downgrade or even cancel their subscription at any time. Furthermore, considering the most expensive plan is just $10.99 per month, the cost is not exactly as much of a commitment as many other live TV streaming services.

frndly TV plans summary

Frndly TV is designed to be an affordable live TV streaming service with the price ranging from $6.99 to $10.99 per month for its Basic, Classic and Premium plans. The main differences between the three subscription options is the amount of recording space, the number of devices that can watch at the same time, and the video playback quality.

PlanPrice p/mQualityStreamsDVR
Basic$6.99SD1No
Classic$8.99HD2Yes
Premium$10.99HD4Yes

While Frndly TV is certainly an affordable way to stream live TV and watch on-demand content from many popular networks, the channel selection is limited compared to other live TV services. As a result, Frndly TV is unlikely to be the right option for every individual and household. However, even if it not a viable replacement for a live TV streaming service, the price is cheap enough that Frndly TV might be a good way to add channels missing from an existing live TV subscription.
